Oddly enough, we met in 2008. We grew up in the same area and had a lot of mutual friends. At the time, we were both teenagers, he was 14, and I was 13. We quickly became friends and eventually became best friends. We grew closer as the years went on, and after almost 9 years, we went on our first date and have been inseparable ever since.
Miles asked me to marry him on Christmas Day in 2018. We were opening gifts, and when I got to my last present, he got down on one knee and proposed.
Once we actually took the leap and decided to start dating after years of friendship, we both just knew that we couldn’t imagine spending life with anyone else.
We dated for almost 2 years before saying “I do” in 2020.
The Osprey’s was actually the last venue we toured. We almost decided not to tour the venue, but none of the previous venues we toured “felt right.” After visiting the Osprey’s and meeting the team, we just knew we had to celebrate our special day there.
Before booking with the Osprey’s, we attended a Bridal Show. This is where I met our original photographer, DJ, and baker. Thankfully, our baker was already one of Osprey’s suggested vendors. However, due to COVID and needing to reschedule our big day twice, we ended up needing to book a new photographer and DJ. We thankfully decided on Mindy Shay Photography and DJ Andres and couldn’t have been happier. We found our videographer from a referral by a family friend.
We both enjoyed the wedding planning process as a whole. But if we had to pick a favorite part, it would most likely be fielding out different vendors, cake tasting, and sampling our wedding menu. If we had to pick our least favorite part of the planning process, we would both say having to decide the final, more detailed decisions and create the seating chart.
We didn’t have a set theme in mind. We just knew we wanted an elegant dinner with an entertaining and fun party vibe for our reception. Thankfully our Osprey’s event director, Vanessa, took all of the decorations and ideas we had and turned it into a perfectly decorated setting that was everything we envisioned.
I found my dream wedding dress. Thanks to a recommendation from my brother-in-law, we found a local men’s boutique specializing in various tuxes. Miles knew he wanted an all burgundy suit, so that helped narrow our choices down. We also found both of our shoes at Steve Madden. They both fit our outfits perfectly.
With Miles’ burgundy tux, we knew the groomsmen and bridesmaids needed to be in something complimentary to his tux and my dress. We knew we wanted to incorporate our wedding colors, burgundy and blush. So, the guys wore gray suits with burgundy vests, ties, and handkerchiefs, while my bridesmaids wore burgundy dresses. My Matron of Honor and Maid of Honor wore a similar but different style dress in blush.
My bouquet was actually a brooch bouquet. The flowers were artificial, white flowers that were decorated with various brooches. My bouquet also had a few strings of pearls and one large pin in the front.
Given we were getting married in March, we always planned for an indoor wedding ceremony. Surprisingly, on the day of our wedding, the weather was in the high 70’s, so we decided on an outdoor ceremony. With 12 people in our bridal party, we knew we didn’t want to overcrowd the pergola. We had a simple but perfect design for our ceremony.
Our last date before becoming engaged was attending, A Legendary Christmas with John Legend at the MGM. When it came time to decide on the song for our first dance, You & I by John Legend just seemed like the perfect choice.
I think we’d do almost everything the same. Due to COVID postponing our first and second rescheduled dates, we learned to become a lot more flexible and trust the team at the Osprey’s and our vendors. Throughout the rescheduling process, we made various changes to the menu, guest count, seating chart, etc. Had we had our wedding on our initial wedding date, this might’ve been a different answer.
We look forward to traveling the world with our daughter and eventually growing our little family.
