How did you meet?
It was Julie who made the first move. She says, “When I saw him on Bumble, I knew I had met him before since we had mutual friends. So I figured I would swipe right and say Hello. The rest is history!” For the record, he did not remember meeting me at the Christmas party
How did they ask?
My best friend came into town to visit. On Saturday morning, we work up and made breakfast, and then we were planning to go site see around the city because her boyfriend had never been to Richmond. After we were done with breakfast, Becca wanted to run to Starbucks while the guys cleaned up from breakfast. I said multiple times that we could just stop on the way out but she wanted to go get it and then come back to the house so I went with that plan. When we got back, Jon had our two dogs out in the yard and they were wearing pink and blue shirts. The only thing pink and blue they have is their life jackets… it was raining.. but I laughed at him for having their life jackets on in the rain.. or so I thought. As we got closer, I relaized they were not life jackets. I got out of the car and on their shirts it said “Will you marry my mommy?” Jon then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I obviously was shocked, but said yes. At this time many of my friends had snuck in while we were out at starbucks and came outside to celebrate. Jon planned brunch at the house and then we all went down to some brewies. We finished the day with a very nice dinner at the Boathouse downtown. It was perfect!
How long were you together before tying the knot?
We began dating on June 8, 2017. We went out to dinner that night at Joe’s Inn. After dinner, Jon walked me to my car and asked me to be his girlfriend. We got engaged on February 16, 2019.
When did you know they were the ones?
The couple agrees that while there isn’t one specific moment that stands out to them, they knew it was meant to be because their relationship naturally progressed in the right direction over time. Julie says, “We fit in perfectly with each other’s family and friends and absolutely love spending time with each other. As our relationship grew, we began talking about a life together. Everything just continued to unfold perfectly with no red flags, so we both knew (marriage) was the step we wanted to take together.”
What made you decide to book The Ospreys for your special day?
We absolutely loved how the ceremony space overlooked the water. We also loved how the reception space had an entire bar area. The bridal suite and groom’s suite were fantastic as well.
How did you choose your wedding day vendors?
Julie admits that this was a challenging part of the wedding process, but the preferred vendor list from The Ospreys was a great place to start. ” The vendor list helped us to get our DJ and Caterer. The Videographer and Photographer were also recommended to us. I found my hair and makeup artist online.”
What was your favorite part of the planning process? What was your least favorite part of planning?
My favorite part of the planning process was working together with Jon to plan our forever. We both loved writing our vows to each other. We loved going to pick out our wedding bands together as well. My least favorite part was picking the vendors. It is hard to know what a reasonable price is and to know if they are what you are precisely looking for. I also do not love searching online. After a while, everything just started running together.
What was your overall wedding day theme?
Glamour was the inspiration for the day. Julie stuck to a primary color palette of gold, white, and burgundy, but she say’s “anywhere we could add in glitter, we did!”
Tell us about your wedding gown/tux shopping experience?
Julie writes, “Dress shopping was so fun! My mom, mother-in-law, sister, and best friend all joined for my first appointment. I went with an open mind and wanted to try on all different types of dresses.” Even though she found a dress she loved during her first appointment, she ended up walking away from it. However, after trying on dresses at her next appointment and narrowing down her style, Julie says, ” when I put my dress on, I automatically fell in love!” Picking Jon’s suit proved to be a much easier task for the couple. The couple went to the store together, and after Jon tried on a couple different options, they were able to narrow down the colors and make a selection.
What was your inspiration for your bridal bouquet?
Julie tells us that she only had colors in mind when she first met with her florist. She writes, ” My florist did such an amazing job and made this part of planning so easy. She was so flexible. Everything she put together completely exceeded any expectation I thought I had.”
What was your inspiration for your ceremony?
Jon & Julie said they each had a few meaningful things that they wanted to include in their ceremony. Julie, “My mom and dad did a unity candle at their wedding, so I knew I wanted to do the same. For Jon, it was important to have someone do a few readings, so we included that as well.”
What was the one moment of your wedding day that stood out the most?
Jon says, “his favorite part of the day was watching Julie walk down the aisle.” However, the couple agrees that reading their vows to each other was also their favorite part of the whole day. ” We didn’t read our vows to each other before the ceremony, and it just meant so much to be able to share that moment with family and friends. The day was simply amazing.”
How did you pick your first dance song?
In their own words, the couple said, “It took us a long time to pick the perfect song for our first dance. We would sit and listen to songs back to back to back. While there were songs we liked, there was nothing that we loved. One day, Jon came to me and said he found the perfect song for our first dance. He played it, I fell in love with it, and we both agreed it was the perfect song for us.” The couple shared their first dance to “You” by Jason Cassidy.
What’s next for the new Mr. & Mrs.?
The couple has been enjoying their time together as newlyweds. Julie says, “We look forward to hopefully being able to travel more in the coming months. As well as staring a family soon.”
Congratulations to the Newlywed’s!
