Weddings are all about celebrating your union with those you love most. Why shouldn’t that include your furry friends too?! Well, as a pet-friendly venue, we think every couple should have the opportunity to incorporate their animal friends into their special celebrations. Below are some of our tips on how to do so safely.
Make sure that your wedding venue allows you to have animals on their property. If including your fur friends on your wedding day is a priority for you, do your homework and make sure you find out what your venue’s pet policy is so that you can incorporate your animal friends safely and without penalty.
Be creative. Your wedding can be a fun & memorable moment for you and your animal friends. Dress them up in fun bow-ties, dresses, and even matching tuxes. If you’re working with a florist, ask if they can wrap their leash in greenery or create a custom floral wreath for your pet to wear. Your guest will love seeing your animal friend all dressed up, and these touches will make for the cutest photos.
Plan some photo ops with your pet friend. Be sure to chat with your photographer beforehand, and let them know that you plan to include your pets in your wedding. This way, they can be sure to bring any additional equipment or an extra assistant, if needed, to ensure you get all the captures you want of you and your animal friend. Your photographer might even be able to give you a few suggestions so that you get the best shots of your furry loved one. Your pet is a beloved member of your family & you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of photos to remember this special occasion.
Make a plan for pet care before & after your ceremony. You might be thinking, I spend every day with my pets, so having them with me on this day shouldn’t be any different, right? Well, not quite. Remember, weddings are full of logistics. There are so many moving parts like getting your hair & makeup done, mingling with your wedding party, and being pulled to take photos. These things can cause a lot of stress & anxiety for your furry friend, causing them to behave differently than they would on an average day at home. Also, depending on how long your animal friends are on-site, they will need individual care as well, which we guarantee you will not have the ability to give them on your wedding day. So it’s essential that you consider these factors and, more importantly, determine who will be responsible for making sure your furry friend is comfortable and safe as you’re preoccupied with your wedding day responsibilities. Our advice is to either hire a pet care service for that day or assign a friend/family member who is not already involved in the wedding to be your pet caretaker during the festivities. If there is nowhere, your pet can comfortably relax once the ceremony is over, ask your pet sitter, if possible, to take your pet home or to the preassigned destination off-site so you can both enjoy your evening worry-free.
If your venue does not allow you to have animals on-site, there are still plenty of ways you can incorporate your furry friends into your special day. If you’re planning to have signature drinks, consider using your pets’ names as the drink titles. Take some photos during your engagement session with your furry friends and print them out to scatter around the venue on your wedding day. You can even get a custom cake topper made that includes your animal friend’s silhouette. There are so many creative ways to incorporate your furry friends into your wedding day. Just remember to have fun with it, and your guests will enjoy these personal touches too.
